Every budgeting app makes the same quiet promise: your spending will sort itself into neat categories. Then reality arrives. A coffee shop lands in "Shopping," a parking garage shows up as "Uncategorized," and your gym gets filed under something you have never heard of. The usual fix is to correct each one by hand, forever, because the app forgets your correction the moment you make it. WIMM takes a different path. You fix it once, and WIMM remembers.

Fix a single transaction in two clicks
Open a transaction and click its category. WIMM opens its hierarchical category tree, the same structured list you see everywhere else in the app, with parent categories like Food and child categories like Groceries or Restaurants nested underneath. Pick the right one and you are done.
That tree matters because it lets you be precise. "Dining out" and "Groceries" both live under Food, but they are very different spending habits, and putting each transaction in the right child category is what makes your reports honest. You are not stuck with a flat dropdown of forty options. You drill down to exactly the right place.
The important part happens after you pick. Every correction you make is recorded, and WIMM uses it. The next time a transaction arrives from that same merchant, it gets your category automatically. You taught WIMM once, and it applies the lesson going forward.
Select many, fix them all at once
Single fixes are fine when something slips through. But sometimes you import a few months of history, or you connect a new account, and a whole batch of transactions needs the same category. Doing those one at a time would be miserable.
So WIMM gives every transaction row a checkbox. Tick the ones you want, or tick the header box to grab a whole page, then apply a single category to all of them in one action. Forty parking charges become forty correctly categorized transactions in one move.

This manual bulk update is free. There is no AI involved and no gate in front of it. If you would rather clean up your own books by hand, in batches, you can do exactly that on every tier, at no cost.
Tip
Corrections train WIMM per merchant. When you recategorize a charge from "Blue Bottle Coffee," every future charge from Blue Bottle inherits that category on its own. The cleanup you do today is cleanup you never have to do again for that merchant.
When you would rather it just do the work: the AI wizard
Manual is great when you want control. But if you have a long backlog of uncategorized transactions and no desire to sort them yourself, the AI categorization wizard does the heavy lifting. It is a Premium feature, and it is built as a clear four-step flow.
First, it pulls up to 200 of your uncategorized transactions. Second, it runs them through WIMM's AI (Claude, with GPT-4o and DeepSeek standing by as fallbacks if the primary is unavailable). Third, it shows you the results in a review table, 25 rows per page, each with a suggested category and a confidence badge so you can see how sure the model is. High-confidence rows come pre-approved, so the obvious calls are already handled. Fourth, you apply everything in bulk.
You stay in charge the whole time. Any suggestion can be overridden before you apply, so a confident-but-wrong guess is one click away from being corrected. We position the AI categorization at around 99% accuracy, and because it learns from your corrections, that accuracy improves the more you use it.
How this beats the one-by-one grind elsewhere
Most budgeting tools treat categorization as a chore that never ends. You correct a merchant today, and next month the same merchant comes in miscategorized again, because the app never connected your edit to that payee. The result is a permanent, low-grade cleanup tax on your time.

WIMM's difference is memory. A correction is not a one-off edit, it is a rule WIMM learns for that merchant. Fix your gym once and your gym stays fixed. That is true whether you correct by hand or accept an AI suggestion, and it is why your categorization gets quieter over time instead of louder.
Apps like Copilot and Monarch have strong automatic categorization too, and they are good at it. WIMM's angle is that you are never locked out of doing it yourself: the manual single and bulk edits are free, the per-merchant learning is built in, and the AI is there when you want to hand the job off rather than as the only way to get clean books.
The honest free-versus-Premium line
Here is the plain version. Categorizing by hand, whether one transaction or a hundred selected at once, is free on every tier. The per-merchant learning that makes your future corrections unnecessary is free too, because it kicks in whenever you correct a category, manual or otherwise.
The AI categorization wizard, the four-step flow that reads 200 transactions and suggests categories with confidence badges, is the Premium piece. You are paying for the AI compute that does the sorting for you. If you want clean categories and do not mind a little manual work, you never have to spend a cent. If you would rather the app clear the backlog while you do something else, that is what Premium buys.
See it on sample data
The fastest way to understand the flow is to watch it run. The demo opens straight into the transactions view with a sample household already loaded, so you can click a category, select a batch, and see the tree in action: app.wimm.money/demo?mode=transactions.
