Our Story

Why Where Is My Money Exists

Built by someone who got tired of not knowing where the money went at the end of every month.

WIMM started as a personal project. Like most people, I had bank accounts, credit cards, and a general sense that money was leaving faster than it should. I tried spreadsheets. I tried the big-name budgeting apps. They all wanted my bank credentials, loaded me with ads, or cost more per month than I was comfortable with for what they offered.

So I built something for myself. A simple tracker that could pull transactions from my bank, let me import the ones it couldn't reach, and use AI to categorize everything without me spending hours tagging each purchase. It worked. For the first time, I could actually see where my household's money was going and not just a rough idea, but the real numbers.

That tool became Where Is My Money. Which I turned into a product because I think everyone deserves to have that clarity without paying a fortune or giving up their privacy to get it.

Honest, Transparent Pricing

I'm not trying to build the next billion-dollar fintech company. I'm trying to build a tool that's genuinely useful and priced fairly enough that it's a no-brainer.

That's why WIMM Premium is $9.00/month or $60.00/year. The annual plan works out to about $5.00 per month which is less than a cup of coffee. I want the price to be low enough that you never think twice about it, while still covering the real costs of running the service.

Where your money actually goes

  • Plaid is a service that connects to your bank and charges us per connected account. That's the single biggest cost. Your plan includes 3 bank connections because that's what most households need.
  • AI providers such as Claude, GPT-4o, DeepSeek and others charge per request. Every time you categorize transactions, there is a real cost behind it.
  • Infrastructure such as hosting, database, email delivery, and security systems. The boring but essential stuff that keeps your data safe and the app fast.

Why Extra Connections Cost Extra

Every bank connection goes through Plaid, and Plaid charges us a real fee for every account you link. I didn't want to hide that or inflate the base price to cover people who connect ten banks while others only need two.

Instead, I made it transparent: your plan includes 3 connections which is enough for most people. If you need more, each additional slot is $2.99/year. That's roughly what it costs us through Plaid, with a small margin to keep the lights on. No markup games, no hidden fees.

You can also skip Plaid entirely and import transactions manually via CSV, Excel, or OFX files at no extra cost, with no connection limit. Plaid is a convenience, not a requirement.

Your Data Is Yours

I built WIMM with an offline-first architecture because I believe financial data is some of the most sensitive information a person has. You shouldn't have to wonder whether your spending habits are being sold to advertisers or mined for marketing profiles.

Here's what that means in practice:

AES-256 Encryption

Bank tokens, API keys, and 2FA secrets are all encrypted before they touch the database.

No Tracking

No analytics cookies, no behavioral tracking, no advertising pixels. We don't even know how often you open the app.

Data Isolation

Every query is scoped to your account. Other users, even household members, can't see your private data.

Full Transparency

Our privacy policy is written in plain English. No legalese, no buried clauses.

Finance tracking should be simple, private, and affordable.

That's the whole philosophy. No venture capital agenda, no growth-at-all-costs mentality. Just a useful tool at a fair price, built by someone who uses it every day.
